Resentment, fear, self-pity, intolerance and anger are just a few of the "rocks" that can sink us--or at the very least, block and isolate us from our friends and family. "Drop the Rock" is a popular book in the recovery communities, although, anyone who has experienced any of these emotions can benefit from the wisdom shared in this book.

This retreat day, led by Sr. Peggy Murphy, OP will explore powerful insights and the principals behind Steps Six and Seven, referring to the "rocks" as our defects of character. The process of identifying these tendencies and stopping the behaviors will not only help those in recovery but will lead us to true happiness and usefulness to others.

About the Presenter:

Sr. Peggy Murphy, OP has worked in the field of Counseling and Education in New York City, Puerto Rico and Orange and Sullivan Counties in New York. Sister is a New York Certified Addiction Counselor and has worked in inpatient treatment at Villa Veritas and Pius XII Adolescent Center, in Downstate and Fishkill Correction Facilities and in Outpatient treatment with Children of Alcoholics. She has a Bachelor's degree in Education from St. John's University, a Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling from Iona College Graduate School and a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Yeshiva University (Manhattan) and a Doctorate in Theology from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. She has served as Chairperson of the Division of Philosophy and Religious Studies, at Mount Saint Mary College (Newburgh, New York) where she is currently a Professor Emerita of World Religions.
